Other Poets
I owe a debt of gratitude to Susan Constable, who died on 18th March 2026. Susan was a talented haiku and tanka poet, and a kind and generous person. I was fortunate to ‘meet’ Susan through Jane Reichhold’s AHA Poetry Forum, where Susan’s encouraging workshop feedback helped me to learn my haiku craft. Following Jane’s death, in late 2016 a new workshopping forum was established – the Inkstone Poetry Forum – with Susan as the founding Global Moderator. As a new moderator in this community, once again I benefitted greatly from Susan’s wise guidance. Susan was not just a talented poet and online forum moderator. She also contributed significantly to the tanka and haiku communities as an editor and contest judge. Read Susan’s obituary.
I’d like to pay tribute to Deborah P. Kolodji, who died on 21st July 2024. Deborah was a significant contributor to the world of haiku and will be greatly missed by many around the world. I was lucky enough to meet Deborah during the Meguro International Haiku Circle’s 2019 Sakura Festival in Tokyo. Haikupedia page.
With great sadness, I’d like to acknowledge the untimely late 2023 death of Ghanaian poet Adjei Agyei-Baah, who was living in New Zealand while completing his PhD at the University of Waikato. Adjei was a widely published poet and a co-founder of the Africa Haiku Network and also of the journal The Mamba. Haikupedia entry. 27th January 2024 Haiku Down Under Facebook post.
