Leanne Mumford
Writer and Photographer
Gadigal, Newtown, Sydney, Australia
Leanne Mumford is an Australian writer and photographer who enjoys practising her crafts wherever she goes. A keen traveller, Leanne’s haiku often reveal a strong sense of place. Through multiple sojourns in Japan she often found herself in places visited by Bashō and her affinity with wabi sabi aesthetics deepened. Returning home after living in Yokohama for two years, Leanne started to compose haiku as a way of integrating a Japanese sensibility into her everyday Australian life. Since 2012 more than 250 of her haiku, plus haiga and haibun, have appeared in various Australian and international journals and anthologies. Her haiku ‘wind song’ won a Touchstone Award for Individual Poems 2019. Leanne is a co-founder of the Haiku Down Under conference, first held in October 2022 and again in August 2024. She convenes the Gadigal Ginko casual events in Sydney. After joining the Australian Haiku Society committee in May 2022 in the role of Secretary, in April 2024 Leanne became President. She is also a founder and moderator of the Inkstone Poetry Forum.
